A glimpse of life and death in Syria

Catch a glimpse of life – and death – in Syria with a series of professional and citizen-made short films available online this weekend

In collaboration with the Danish film festival CPH:DOX, IMS takes part in Global Day for Syria, a special online screening of a range of professional short films from Syrian filmmakers, as well as films and videos made by the Syrian people themselves.

In March last year the Syrian documentary film festival DOX BOX was cancelled due to the unstable situation in the country.

In solidarity with the Syrian film makers behind the festival and to show support for the Syrian people, documentary film festivals around the world kept the festival going under the heading Global Day for Syria.

In 2013 the festival takes place online through special screenings this weekend.

The first DOX BOX film festival took place in Syria in 2008 as a non-profit festival organised by independent filmmakers. Before the Syrian civil war, DOX BOX was an annual event in Damascus, Tartous, Aleppo and Homs.

The festival is a platform for Arab and international filmmakers working creatively with documentary filmmaking. In 2011, over 27.000 participants attended the festival in Syria.
