Israel’s unilateral end to the ceasefire and relentless bombardment of Gaza gives rise to massive concern. At least 436 Palestinians have been killed in only a few days. These recent acts of violence are also heavily affecting the Palestinian journalists.
On Saturday, four journalists were reported killed in an attack in Northern Gaza, while working on documenting relief efforts by the charity Al Khair Foundation. Several aid workers were killed in the same attack.
Last night, reports said that ABC News reporter, Husam Al-Titi, was killed – along his family – when his home was bombed.
Friday, the Forum of Palestinian journalists announced the death of Alaa Hashim who died of injuries that she had previously sustained in an Israeli bombardment of Gaza City.
At least 162 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Israel’s war on Gaza, and we suspect that this figure will only keep rising.
This is a mere continuation of Israel’s complete disregard for the lives and work of Palestinian journalists who are still the world’s single source of information about events on the ground in Gaza.
At no point has Israel taken seriously its responsibility to protect journalists and their right to perform their professional duties in accordance with international laws and humanitarian conventions.
We must demand a permanent ceasefire now.
