Ukrainian journalists call for prompt investigation into attack on Yuriy Makarov

IMS (International Media Support) joins Ukrainian journalists and media organisations in expressing deep concern over the violent attack on Yuriy Makarov, a respected journalist and executive producer at Suspilne Broadcasting.

Yuriy Makarov was stabbed with a knife on the evening of 16th April on a street in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district, near a residential complex, .

“Yuriy Makarov is currently hospitalized and is in a serious condition. His life is not in danger, however,” Suspilne said in a statement on April 17, adding that the police have launched a criminal investigation.

We call on the Ukrainian authorities to ensure a prompt, thorough, and transparent investigation into this assault, including the possibility that it may be linked to Makarov’s professional work and public stance on the Russian war in Ukraine.
