World Press Freedom Day 2015
#MyFreeExpression: World Press Freedom Day 2015
Looking back at a year of media freedom in decline in almost every part of the world, IMS marks World Press Freedom Day on 3 May 2015 to underline the importance of independent and professional media in democratic development.
As conflicts evolve and authoritarian regimes tighten their grip people’s lives, the conditions for freedom of expression and media freedom have worsened throughout the year. Expression without fear of retribution has been the dominant theme in our #MyFreeExpression campaign leading up to World Press Freedom Day.
With contributions from journalists and human rights defenders from every corner of the world, the campaign shines a light on how people risk their lives and fear repression and censorship as they express themselves.
